Tagged Synopsis
The anonymous online world gives us permission to say and do things we would never do in real life. But where do we draw the line between fun and maliciousness? The harsh realities of cyberbullying and what happens when we’re discovered come to a head intagged. As a police officer investigates Jerri and Webber, two young adults, regarding the incessant online harassment of a fellow student, not all is as it appears to be.
We had the opportunity to see "Tagged" at Young People's Theatre, a thought-provoking play which examines our relationship to social media and the consequences of our choices made in an online environment. At the Ontario Science Centre, we had the opportunity to participate in the workshop "Systems Inquiry" and view the IMAX film Hubble! For our current Geography unit, we visited Todmorden Mills Heritage Site today and had two interdisciplinary workshops on Waterways - Environmental Impact at Todmorden Mills and Landscape Industry and Change. Our class went on a field trip to Mackenzie House, the restored home of William Lyon Mackenzie, Toronto's first mayor and the leader of the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837. We went on our first class field trip to Young People's Theatre to see "Jabber" - a play which challenged our assumptions about making judgments based on one's appearances. In the next few weeks, we will be exploring how to address stereotypes and prejudice as well as recognize the role of the media in their creation.
