With the approaching date of Christmas brings Mrs. Jackymyc from ArtQuest into our classroom for a meaningful Christmas craft workshop: a beautiful three piece nativity trio made of wooden blocks and embossed foil.
Mrs. Jakymyc, from ArtQuest, worked with the students today to create wooden plaques with a Christmas scene of the nativity. First, students painted their wooden rectangular pieces with black and a hint of blue to provide the night setting, Then, with white paint, stars were dotted onto the sky with one star transformed into the famous Star of Bethlehem with a sparkling bead and rays of light. Using stencil and white chalk, students traced the image of the Holy Family in the manger shortly after Jesus' birth. A Celebration of the Christmas Family! As part of the Grade 8 class tradition, students exchanged gifts with their Secret Santa. The Grade 8s also received beautiful cards from their Reading Buddies!
During this Christmas season, students celebrated the "reason for the season" by creating nativity trios out of wood, paint, styrofoam, and fabric. While waiting for the paint to dry, students also created Christmas cards with a few button ornaments...
On our final day of school before Christmas Break, students were in the holiday spirit with our Secret Santa gift exchange! We continued our Christmas celebration on the ice!
One of our class's parents, Mrs. Cruzada, generously volunteered her time and donated the materials to teach our class how to make a Christmas craft of a beaded star. In exchange, students were encouraged to donate a children's book for the ReadPhilippines charity founded by Mrs. Cruzada which provides books for children in the Philippines.
Mrs. Jakymyc was in our classroom today delivering the first of three art workshops we will have this year. As part of an annual Christmas tradition in my class, students created a three piece rustic nativity set out of wood, fabric, yarn, styrofoam, and paint.
We had a fun-filled day, beginning with the completion of backdrops for our beautiful nativity art, followed by Secret Santa in the afternoon! After the excitement died down somewhat, we raced over to Dieppe for some last-minute skating! The sign below says it all!
Mrs. Jakymyc, from ArtQuest, delivered a special workshop in which students created charming, rustic three-piece "folk art" nativity sets - in time for Christmas! |
